Contentious issues and hot topics

Whew! My head is spinning from hearing everyone talk about their reports on so many of these issues—sexting, censorship, parent responsibility, balancing technology and nature, the importance of relationships...and much more. Some good research into these topics and some excellent sharing of educational implications and what, as future teachers, they can do about it.

I was struck by the fact that most of these topics/issues existed before technology...and while technology has made them more immediate and compelling, it is still the human aspect of the equation that is the key.  As Alvin Toffler said a long time age..."high tech, high touch." That is even truer today than in the past.

So, what is the role that teachers and schools must play in making sure that students (and other adults?) use digital tools responsibly?

I blog, you blog, we all blog!

I am impressed with what I have seen already with our class blogs—excellent and interesting content—and some fun with the gadgets you are using. Ok, I like the fish! When it comes down to it, however, the content is the thing. Deciding what to write about is no easy task...how much to put yourself out there...what to say about the topic...and more!

I would like you, my EDT 400 students, to make at least ten posts during the semester (approximately one each week) on a variety of topics related to learning and teaching and technology. For our KPE majors, I would like you to concentrate on areas of interest that you are professionally involved in—exercise science, physical fitness, physical therary, corporate fitness, and similar topics.

Use your blogs to comment on some of the interesting things we are reading about in EDT 400, issues that are coming up in your other classes, hot topics...and more.

Above all...have fun with your blog...relax and enjoy!
